John L. White

John L. White, age 87, of Gary, went to be with the Lord on June 3, 2017. John was born October 28, 1929 in Eldorado, Illinois to the late John and Mae White. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Geneva Crane, Ora Feges, and Nellie Briddick. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Ethel White; children, Curtis (Cathy) White, Belinda (James) Overby, Diane (Greg) Barker, Keith (Kim) White; grandchildren, Chad (Deanne) Barker, Brian (Carmina) White, Janice (Kevin) Bailey, John (Stephanie) Hancock, Melissa Barker, Eric Overby, Michael Overby, Amanda White, John (Stephanie) Overby, Kelsey (Josh) Steele; great grandchildren, Jared, Kobe, Sienna, Ashley, Ben, Jacob, Liam, Arabella, Greyson, Grayson, Rachel, Rebekah, Alexandra, Samantha, Caitlynn, Ayden, Nathan, Ava, and Tatyanna; one great-great grandchild, Luke; brother, L.B (Carol) White; sisters, Emily (Rod) Choisser, Alma (Larry) Coker, and Ann Morris; sister-in-law, Wanda Brown. John retired from Inland Steel after 38 years of service as a carpenter. He was a member of Griffith Church of God. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his harvest with friends and family. John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 3-7 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Ave. Schererville, Indiana). And again from 10:00 am until the time of his funeral at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Sluder officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
