Joseph W. Vecchio age 94, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia (late William) Korcha and Linda (Robert) Crider; grandchildren, Suzanne (Mike) Bukur, John (Irene) Augsburger, Tammy (Tom) Gordon, Jeff Augsburger, Richard Barkauskas and Joseph (Julie) Gambril; great grandchildren, Corin (Dan) Grugel, TJ (Chelsey) Gordon, Anna (Andrew) Cartwright, Angela (fiancé Dan) Bukur, Zachary Gordon, Michael Bukur, Mia Augsburger, Natalie Augsburger and Peyton Gambril; great great-grandaughter, Vayda Grugel; sisters, Mildred and Lucille; brother, John; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Preceded in death by the love of his life, Ann Jaeger and his siblings, Vincent, Daniel 'Moose' and Sr. Marian Grace.
Joe was born February 11, 1926 in Port Chester, NY to the late Carmello and Rose Vecchio. In Joe's own words...His one great passion was always learning and teaching as attested to by his many students on the East Coast as well as West Virginia and here in NW Indiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately by the family at Our Lady of Consolation Church, Merrillville, IN with Rev. Peter J. Muha officiating.
Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Consolation Church 8303 Taft Street Merrillville, IN 46410 or to St. Joseph's Carmelite Home 4840 Grasselli Street,, East Chicago, IN 46312.
