Josephine (Josie) Mikuly, age 85, formerly of De Motte, IN passed away peacefully on December 22, 2021 at Cedar Creek Health Campus, where she resided since March, 2020. She was born on March 23, 1936 in Geneva, NY, the youngest of 10, to the late Frank and Angelina (Pane) Gillotte. Josie married John (Mickey) Mikuly at the Quantico Military Base.
She was a former member of St. Maria Goretti in Dyer and current parishioner of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in De Motte. Josie (Mama, as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren) had many interests throughout her lifetime. She was a Brownie troop leader, Dyer Police dispatcher, hairstylist, Dyer Democratic Precinct Committee Woman, bartender at the Illiana Speedway for her son, Mike, and active member and volunteer at St. Cecilia's. Josie was strong in her faith and proud of her Italian roots, thereby fulfilling her lifelong dream of visiting Rome and its many cathedrals. She was happiest in the kitchen, showing her love by cooking a feast and making enough leftovers to feed a village. Her greatest achievements were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; and sons, Mike Mikuly, and infant son, Craig John Mikuly. She is survived by her loving family; daughter, Tina (Ken); and son, Craig (Chris); grandchildren, Jodi (Aaron), Kelli, Michael (Tiffany), Amanda (Brad), Zak (Claudia), and Carlie; great-grandchildren, Cory, Victor, Adriana, Julianna, Briella, and Emrsyn; niece, Doreen (Bob); sisters-in-law, Lucille Kammer and Joyce Gluth; best friend, Joan Juarez; and extended family in her hometown of Geneva, and her numerous friends.
A Public Visitation for Josephine will take place from 9:30 - 10:30 AM on Friday, January 7th, 2022 at St. Cecilia's Church, 334 15th Street SW, in De Motte, IN. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow from 10:30 - 11:30 AM. Burial is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN.
On behalf of the Mikuly family, we politely ask for masks to be worn to ensure everyone's safety. Josie would not want anyone to jeopardize their health, so family and friends do not have to be in attendance for their thoughts and prayers to be heard.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ChapelLawnFunerals.com for the Mikuly family. The family wishes to thank the caregivers from Cedar Creek, as well as Dunes Hospice, for their care and loving support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for Josie may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association.
