

Mrs. Cooke was born on April 12, 1923 in Paris, Illinois to the late Lawrence and Carrie (Murphy) Moore. On April 12, 1941 on her 18th birthday, she married William Cooke who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death are her son Joseph Cooke and grandson Jason Cates.
Survivors are her children William “Ted” (Patricia) Cooke, Jacqueline Ellingham, Susan Cates, Penny Jankovich, Daniel (Joy) Cooke, and her daughter in law Patty Cooke; grandchildren, Kim Cooke- Horvat, Chris (Kristy) Cooke, Joe Cooke, Toby Swanson, Bill Cooke, Bob Cooke, Abby Cooke, Matt “Scott”(Laura) Cooke, Jennifer Cates, Kathy Rangel, John (Michelle) Rangel, Ron (Colleen) Jankovich, Marc (Ashley) Jankovich, Shannon (Michael) Shutko, Tracy (Zachariah) Sutton, Jackie (William) Mihelich, Ted(Renee) Cooke, Penney (Ian) Varner, 36 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren, and dear family friend Mike Gutyan.
Kathleen was a cook for local schools, but her first labor of love would be a Mom and caregiver to many generations of her family. Her full of life, maternal and social personality attracted many to share her company. She never met a stranger, and had a gentle “take charge” attitude, which made her the unofficial mayor of Colonial of Crown Point. She loved cruising the back roads of Indiana.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 2-8 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave.; Schererville, Indiana 46375) and Funeral Friday, August 22, 2014 at 11:00 am with Mike Scheffer officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
