Larry J. Smith

Lawrence J. "Larry" Smith passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Larry leaves his loving daughters: Dawn (Joseph) Magiera of Gary, IN, Corrie (Alex) Erdelles of Schererville, IN and Michelle (Shawn) Graham of Griffith, IN; former wife and lifelong friend Barbara Smith of Griffith; his cherished grandchildren; Kaitlyn and Andrew Magiera, Jenna and Jacob Bunner, Zach Erdelles, Sarah Balboa, and Shawn and Bryce Graham; fond brother to James (Peggy) Smith of Colorado, Richard (late Rita) Smith of Hobart, IN, Nancy (late Larry) Pittenger of Colorado and Annette (Donald) Hart of Crown Point, IN; and brother-in-law to Jane Smith of Colorado; fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. Larry is preceded in death by his parents: Richard and Frances Smith; and brother, Daniel. Larry retired from Ozinga Brothers after 31 years of service. Larry proudly served his country in the US Army during Vietnam War. Family and friends may gather on Friday, April 29, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., Schererville, IN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at the funeral home, 12:00 noon. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made in Larry's name to the Hospice of the Calumet Area.
