Leigh R Jenkins

Leigh R. Jenkins, age 93, of Merrillville, IN passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013. He is survived by his three children: Diane (Fred) Denton of Hammond, IN, Nadine Thieme of Merrillville, IN and Sandra (Donald) Marcus of Columbia, TN; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters in law: Angie Figlewicz of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and Katherine Lackerdas of San Marcos, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; and sister, Iris Anderson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., (one-half mile south of US 30) Schererville, IN with Rev. Jerry Moe officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Mr. Jenkins retired from BP Amoco with 37 years of service and was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Merrillville, IN. Leigh was a member of the American Legion and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a Surgical Technician. He was extremely proud of his military service. Mr. Jenkins enjoyed camping and was a big baseball fan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Leigh's loving memory to the Great Lakes Greyhound of Indiana (Westville, IN).
