Leonard Summerford, age 92, of St. John, IN passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2022. Leonard was born March 23, 1930 in Fort Payne, AL. He was affectionately known as "Grandad" to family and friends, alike.
Leonard was preceded in death by Father and Mother, Shelly and Era Summerford; his son, Dwight (Lydia) Summerford; great-grandson, Josh Cook; and one brother, Willard Summerford.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Birthel Summerford; one daughter, Nelda (Frank) Duvall; one son, Mickey Summerford; three granddaughters, Heather Summerford, Jill (Jonathan) McNatt, and Deanna (Ollie) Taylor; three grandsons, Steve (Jennifer) Summerford, Darrin (Tami) Duvall and David (Lawanda) Duvall; one brother, David (Carolyn) Summerford,14 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Leonard and Birthel's 75th wedding anniversary will occur in August of this year.
He was a faithful Christian Elder and member of Crown Point Holiness Church and predecessor Holiness churches for 72 years.
Leonard retired from Munster Steel, where he was Plant Superintendent for twenty-plus years.
A Pubic Visitation for Leonard will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. Funeral will be conducted by Rev. James McLain, Rev. Frank Duvall, and Rev. Terry Wright. Committal service will be officiated by Rev. Ollie Taylor.
Leonard will be laid to rest in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.
