

Marianne F. Thompson, age 85, of Dyer, IN, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Horst Thompson; son, Darren (Lisa) Thompson; granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Nate) Grimmer and Ava Thompson; great-granddaughter, Emma Grimmer; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Marianne was preceded in death by her parents, Casimer and Frances Novak; and brother, John Novak.
Memorial visitation will be held April 25, 2026, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN, 46307 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 am.
Marianne found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved spending time in the kitchen, where her cooking and baking brought people together and created lasting memories around the table. Whether trying a new recipe or perfecting a family favorite, she expressed her love through every dish she prepared, and made sure nobody left her house hungry.
An avid golfer and gardening enthusiast, Marianne found peace and happiness outdoors. She took pride in tending to her garden, and enjoyed the calm and challenge of a day on the golf course. She also loved shopping, always finding joy in picking out something special for herself or others.
Marianne had a playful side and treasured time spent with friends playing Bunco and Bingo, where laughter was always abundant. She was also a passionate sports fan who rarely missed a game, especially when it came to basketball, golf, and her beloved Cubs. Watching her favorite teams and tournaments brought her excitement and connection.
Above all, Marianne will be remembered for her kindness, her generosity, and the love she shared so freely. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
