Obituary of Marilyn J. Atkinson
Marilyn June Atkinson, age 80, of Schererville, IN passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021. Marilyn was born June 30, 1941 to the late Franklin C. and Maxine L. (Bowman) Cummings in Tuscola, IL. On August 8, 1957 she married David P. Atkinson in the state of Michigan. They had 55 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2012. Her family will remember her generosity and creative spirit. Marilyn was employed for 17 years in the fabric and crafting department at the local Walmart in Schererville, IN. Outside of work she spent her free time crocheting, reading and enjoyed making memories with her family. Her kindness and big heart will be missed by all who knew her. Marilyn is survived by her two children, daughter, Darcelle "Darci" R. (John) Atkinson; son, David C. (Jenny) Atkinson; four grandsons, Joseph P. (Lahla) Reed, Matthew T. (Lauren) Reed, Troy D. (Evi) Atkinson, Noah J. (Corrin) Atkinson; three sisters, Mary A. (Robert) Lockwood, Margaret R. (Virgil) Simons, Helen (Eddie) Durham, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is welcomed into eternity by her loving husband, David P. Atkinson; parents, Franklin and Maxine Cummings; three sisters, Barbara A. Fleenor, Georgianna Kegly, Francis M. Rodgers; two brothers, Patrick J. Cummings, and Michael D. Cummings. Chapel Lawn funeral home is entrusted with the service arrangements for Marilyn. A Memorial Luncheon will take place Friday, August 20th from 11AM-1PM at the American Legion Post 485, 7485 Burr Street in Schererville, IN 46375. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46375. Please enter at the second entrance which will take you to the Funeral Home Parking Lot. A procession will take place to the Veteran's Garden. Rev. Scott Grady will be officiating.
