Mark Delmore Hawkins

Mark Delmore Hawkins, age 79, of Valparaiso, IN, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026. He was born on October 17, 1946, in Watertown, SD, to Gerald Hawkins and Carolyn Tubbs.

Mark was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He shared 33 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Susie. Together, they cherished time with family and looked forward to traveling and planning their next adventure. Their shared love of life and family created lasting memories.

Mark proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Specialist Four (SP4). He was awarded numerous military honors, including the Purple Heart, in recognition of his service and sacrifice. His military service remained a meaningful and defining part of his life, reflecting his courage and dedication.

Following his service, Mark built a respected 35-year career as a millwright with U.S. Steel. He took great pride in his work and in providing for the family he loved.

Above all, Mark was a devoted father to his three daughters, Morgan (Kevin) Tyshper, Kimberly (Ronald) Hans, and Michelle (Michael) Jeffers. He was present, supportive, and always made time for his family. He was equally proud of his seven grandchildren, Andrew (Kyra) Monahan, Lillian (Andrew) McDougal, Kaylee (Jon) Hite, Niles Tyschper, Faye Tyschper, Greer Tyschper, and Hunter Jeffers. He found great joy in watching them grow and sharing in their lives. His legacy continued through his six great-grandchildren, Madalynn, Kinslee, Carter, Ryleigh, Jace, and Landon.

Those who knew Mark will remember him as a kind, easygoing man with a warm smile and generous heart. He was a steady presence in his family’s life—someone others could always rely on. He led with quiet strength, humility, and a willingness to help whenever needed.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Hawkins and Carolyn Tubbs.

Services will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN, 46307 on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 pm. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Mark leaves behind a legacy defined not by titles or accomplishments, but by love, service, and the lives he touched. A life well lived. A country proudly served. A family deeply loved. A man forever remembered.
