Mark Stephen Oberman

Mark Stephen Oberman (73) passed away at his home in Schererville, IN on June 8, 2026, with family by his side. He was born on September 8, 1952, at South Community Hospital in Chicago, IL to parents, William Max Oberman and Marion Jean Oberman.

After spending the first six years of life living on the Southeast side of Chicago, Mark and his family moved to the nearby suburb of Burnham, IL. He graduated with the 1970 class of Thornton Fractional North High School.

Mark served in the United States Army from 1972-1974, reaching a rank of Specialist 4. During his service, he received a National Defense Medal and a Sharpshooter Medal. After the Army, he worked as a Field Fabricator at Inland Steel Mill in East Chicago, IN from 1974-2005.

In his younger years, Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, lifting weights, and running. In his later years, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, sudoku, and watching old television programs. He was a big fan of the Chicago White Sox, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. His love of sports extended beyond the field and he never missed the excitement and tradition of the Indy 500.

Mark is survived by his wife, Linda (Grabowski) Oberman; children, Jennifer Skrundz, Stephanie Knight, and Tim (Bridget) Oberman; grandchildren, Brody, Makayla, Austin, Madelynn, Colin, Grayson, Zoey, Owen, and Mack; siblings, William Oberman, Richard (Dina) Oberman; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, William Oberman; and his mother, Marion Oberman.

Visitation for Mark will be held on Thursday, June 18, from 10:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. Burial to follow at 2:00 pm with Military Honors at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.

A luncheon will be provided for all at the Halls of St. George in Schererville, IN immediately after the burial.
