Obituary of Martha Elizabeth Adkins
Martha Elizabeth Sloan-Lowe-Adkins, age 82, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022 in her home with her family by her side. She was born July 6, 1940, in Clay City, IL to Jeff and R. Maxine Bissey Sloan. She was married to Gerald Lowe from 1956 to 1978 and they had four children. In earlier years, Martha attended Pittsfield Church of the Nazarene and also attended church in Indiana. Martha worked for Simmons Mattress Company as a seamstress in Munster, IN for several years. She also waitressed over the years and worked at Brown Shoe Company. Martha worked with the handicapped at Tradewinds and enjoyed her career as a CNA at Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She enjoyed going to flea markets and doing word search puzzles, and loved going out to eat at Cardinal Inn and Fat Boys and Petros in Indiana. Martha loved to watch the birds and squirrels play in her yard. Martha was a big fan of Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune and was disappointed if she had to miss an episode. She was a hard-working woman who could be stubborn at times, but was always deeply loved by her family. Martha is survived by four children; Jerry Dean (Jocelyn) Lowe of Kentland, IN, Carol L. (Mike) Lynch of Barry, IL, Kim A. Snyder of Pittsfield, IL and Vickie J. (Mark) Lynch of Milton, IL; step-daughter, Linda S. Adkins of Hannibal, MO; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; nineteen great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and R. Maxine Sloan; sister, Mary R. Partridge; brother, Lester Sloan; one sibling in infancy; granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Marie Powers; infant great-great-grandson, Lance Dylan Martin; second husband, Otis Adkins; and first husband, Gerald Lowe. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 3:00 pm until the time of her Funeral at 4:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. Private family burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Blessing Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
