

Mary D. Cutter, age 83, of Portage, IN, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in Valparaiso, IN. She was born on September 4, 1942, in East Chicago, IN, to Augustus “Guy” Slosser and Celia Slosser (née Stempf).
Mary is survived by her son, Scott Cutter (Susanne); grandchildren, Stephanie Hovan (Steven), Nicole Mudry (Matt), and Derick Cutter (Jackie); and great-grandchildren, Jonathon Wolwark (Holly), Jaime Jones, Aubree Jones, Gavin Mudry, Adeline Cutter, Alaina Cutter, Claire Hovan, Andrew Hovan, and Hannah Hovan. She is also survived by her longtime companion, Bill McCoy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Roger Slosser.
Mary owned her own pet grooming business and worked as a school crossing guard. She was an avid bowler and a longtime member of the Bonner Senior Center in Portage.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Brickyard Healthcare in Valparaiso and to Dunes Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
A visitation for Mary will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.
