Susie was born on June 18, 1947, in Kansas City, KS to Clifford and Mary Overcash. She was the second oldest, and first daughter of eight children. Susie was a 1965 graduate of Bishop Ward High School. At 16 years old, she met the love of her life, Chuck, and 3 years later on July 30,1966 they were married. Shortly after their wedding, they relocated to Fairfield, CA while Chuck served in the U.S. Air Force. A little over a year later, they started their family. After the Air Force, Susie and Chuck returned to Kansas City, KS, where they had three more children, and Susie supported the family while Chuck attended college and then law school. By 1977, she was raising five children in Des Moines, IA. The family moved to Crete, IL in 1979, where Susie lived for the remainder of her years. Susie had a lot of love to give and she shared that love and her home with many foster children over the years. In 1989, Susie & Chuck welcomed their sixth child into their family. In addition to raising her family, she had many jobs over her lifetime, including medical transcriptionist, gift shop manager at Des Moines airport, Manager of Fannie May, and Food Service Manager at the middle school in Crete. She enjoyed bowling and spent many years in a league with their very good friends, Rochelle & Mark Halama. She was on Bowling for Dollars, participated in Supermarket Sweep and won many prizes from radio contests. Susie & Chuck shared many memorable vacations, including Alaska, visits to multiple national parks, the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain and many trips to Mexico.
Susie was the sunshine of Chuck’s life. She was his first, his only, his everything. She was a strong woman with a big heart. Her children will remember her as a kind and loving mother who would do anything for them. Her grandchildren will fondly remember how she was always filled with joy when they were near and always had something in the cookie jar for them.
Visitation will be Friday, August 30, 2024 from 11:00 am until the time of her Memorial Service at 12:30 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.
