Mateo C. "Chief" Saucedo, age 84, of Hammond, IN passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Guadalupe (nee Torres); four children: Alicia (Robert) Severin of Schererville, IN, Sandra Serrano of Hammond, IN, Jose Luis Saucedo of Crown Point, IN and Diane (Daniel) Bryant of Hammond, IN; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers: Faustino Saucedo of Laredo, TX and Felix (Florencia) Saucedo of San Antonio, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Saucedo was preceded in death by his parents: Cresencio and Juana Saucedo; and two sisters: Beatrice Cantu and Epimenia Reyes. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., (one-half mile south of US 30) Schererville, IN with Pastor Ed Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family Friday, April 4, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Mateo retired from Inland Steel with 38 years of service.
Mr. Saucedo enjoyed gardening, vacationing, the outdoors, and playing with his grandkids.
