

He was born on March 21, 1947, in Pitios, Chios, Greece, to the late Michales Chloros and Mercina Chloros (née Tsopani). He was also preceded in death by his brother, Theodoros Apostolis.
Nickolaos is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Irene Chloros; his sons, Michales (Ashley) Chloros and Marinos Chloros; and his cherished grandchildren, Penelope and Nikolaos Chloros.
Nickolaos lived a life defined by hard work, perseverance, and love for his family. In his early years, he worked as a chef on cargo ships, traveling the world and collecting stories that he loved to share with those around him. In 1983, he and his wife immigrated to the United States in pursuit of a better life.
With determination and humility, Nickolaos began working as a dishwasher, steadily building toward his dream. In 1991, he proudly opened his first restaurant, Kennedy Cafe, which continues to serve the Hammond community to this day. In 2008, he expanded his legacy by opening Lake Park Restaurant in Hobart, a business he later passed down to his sons, who continue to honor his work ethic and passion.
Nickolaos will be remembered for his resilience, his generosity, and the deep pride he took in his family and his life’s work. His journey from a small village in Greece, to building a lasting legacy in the United States, is a testament to his strength and character.
His memory will live on through the family he cherished and the community he helped nourish for decades.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 4, from 9:00 to 10:00 am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Schererville, IN, with funeral services to follow. Burial will take place at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.
