Pedro Uñate, Jr.

Pedro "Pete" Uñate, Jr., age 68, of Portage, IN, passed away on February 15, 2026. He is survived by his best friend and former spouse, Lygia "Lee" Uñate; his children, Brian (Erica) Uñate, Crystal (Will) Evans, and Amanda (Ron) Wright; grandchildren, Jordon, Logan, Gavin, Mariella, Mikayla, Xander, and Atticus; siblings, Juanita Uñate, Delia Camacho, Lydia Gonzalez, Norma Alcala, Christella Azcona, Romualdo Uñate, and Emilio Uñate; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro, Sr. and Manuela Uñate; brothers, Jose (surviving Olivia) Uñate and Alfredo Uñate; and nephew, David Uñate.

Services for Pete will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN, 46307, from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Burial to immediately follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Pete was a hard-working, proud union member of Pipefitter's Local 597. If he wasn't at work, he could always be found working on cars, jamming to his favorite classic rock. Pete loved being outside, laughing, partying, a good beer and a bowl, BBQ and, later in life, nothing made him happier than spending time with his grandchildren. He was a man of few words, but he always showed up when you needed him. Even in his final moments, Pete kept his sense of humor. While nurses were repositioning him, he started saying "OW, OW, OW." His daughter asked, "Are you being serious or are you joking?" and he replied, "I'm seriously joking."
