

Regino was born May 4, 1942 in Nuevo, Laredo, Mexico to the late Regino and Maria (Baez) Covarrubias Sr. Also preceding him in death are his siblings; Alice Herrera, Lauro B. Covarrubias Sr., and Juanita Covarrubias.
Left to cherish his memory are, his loving wife of 51 years, Edith (Merrick) Covarrubias; children, Regino (Arlene Murgolo) Covarrubias Jr., Cynthia (Phillip) Barnhill, and Aaron Covarrubias; grandchildren, Jacqueline (Matt) Moffitt, Melissa Barnhill, and Nicole Barnhill; great grandchildren, Drake, Aidan, Saliya, and Jade; siblings, Virginia (Joseph) Guzman, Martina (Enrique) Rocha, Jesse (Joy) Covarrubias, Edward (Dale) Covarrubias Sr., Josephine (Octavio) Bustemante, Beatrice (Anthony) Kidd, Rebecca (John) Cabrera, and Sandra (Thomas) Mallory; brother and sister-in-laws, John (Kathy) Merrick, Christine Pabey, Carl Merrick, Caroline (Arturo) Garcia, and Tina Merrick, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Covarrubias faithfully served in the United States Army, being stationed in Germany. He also retired from BP/Amoco after 31 years of service. He was a devote member of Christian Fellowship of Hammond where he belonged to the AWANA group and offered his prayers at the “prayer station” in his church parking lot on Saturday mornings. Regino was a member and Past Exalted Ruler for the Highland Elks Lodge, and a past member of the Mason’s McKinley Lodge in Schererville. Mostly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, December 28, from 3-7 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave.; Schererville, Indiana 46375).
