Obituary of Robert Otis Hines
Robert "Bob" Otis Hines, aged 90, of Schererville, IN, passed away on May 31, 2024. He was born on December 9, 1933, in East Chicago, IN. Bob was a dedicated husband and father, known for his strong work ethic and love for sharing his political views. He enjoyed spending time in his lazy boy recliner, watching tv shows and old war movies. Bob had a passion for caring for his many dogs and cherished moments spent with his family and friends. He was a proud member of the American Legion, Post 369, in East Chicago, IN. In his professional life, Bob served in the Army Reserve from November 6, 1956, to October 31, 1962. He was a skilled Pattern Maker and had completed two years of higher education at Purdue University Calumet after attending Columbia Primary School and Hammond Tech High School. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Shirley J. Hines; his children, Jeffrey R. (Jennifer) Hines, Rebecca L. (Robert) Rycerz, Robert J. Hines, and Christopher D. (Marvin “Chuck” Barrier) Hines; grandchildren, Kaitlin (John) Pennington, Kristen Hines, Hunter (fiancée, Jackie Frye) Rycerz, Brooke Rycerz, Nick Rycerz and Elle Hines; great-grandchildren, Will, Charlee, and Emmy Pennington; and his sister, Barbara A. Lail. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maymie Paluch; father, Merton H. Hines; brother, James Hines; and sister-in-law, Joann Hines. A ceremony to honor Bob's life will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. Visitation will be held from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, followed by the Committal from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Humane Indiana Shelter & Adoption Center in Munster, IN. Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens in Crown Point, IN, is assisting with the funeral arrangements.
