Obituary of Rose A. Velez
Rose Amelia Velez, 59, entered into eternal peace on March 31, 2020 surrounded by her beloved family. Rose is the daughter of Luis A. Velez and Amelia Rodriguez Velez. She was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, grew up on the Southeast side of Chicago, and resided in Whiting, Indiana. Rose leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her brothers and sisters: Louis, Robert, Irma, Ralph, Jorge, Priscilla, Maria and Adrian, and her stepfather Carmelo Carrasquillo. Rose was an aunt and “cool mom” to numerous nieces and nephews that love her deeply and who she loved with all her heart. She is also truly loved by her longtime friend, Sam Alvelo. Rose was the best dog mom to Roxy, Hudson, Chaska, Buddy, and Rico. Rose was a devoted member of the Community Christian Church of Chicago where she served as church secretary and participated in many church and community events. Rose was an amazing cook. She always had a hand in preparing food at family gatherings. She loved to entertain, garden and travel and took pride in decorating her home. Rose was fiercely independent, unwaveringly supportive, and strong. She was also very nurturing and compassionate, often opening her home and her heart to anyone in need. The family would like to thank all the friends, neighbors and co-workers who diligently prayed and sent messages of support and love to Rose. Also, a special thank you to the hospice nurses that helped our family care for her and to Bill and Sue, who were so kind to take on the care of Buddy and Rico. We are so grateful. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: ASPCA, www.aspca.org; Alice’s Fund, www.staydoghotel/alices-fund; or PAWS, www.paws.org. Service will be held Monday, April 6, 2020 with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois. Due to COVID-19, visitation and burial is restricted to family only.
