

Stephen J. Semethy, age 80, of Schererville, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2018 at his residence with his sons at his side. Stephen was born June 25, 1937 in Budapest, Hungary to the late Nandor and Borbala Semethy. Also preceding him in death are his loving wife of 52 years, and a daughter Shelly Semethy. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Mark Semethy, Stephen (Laura) Semethy; grandchildren, Courtney, Andrew, Allison, Julia, Lana, Austen, Aislinn, and Jackson; great grandchildren, Liam, Isaac, Damien, and Vladimir; brother, Fred; and sister, Aniko. Stephen was born and raised in Budapest Hungary and fought in the Hungarian Revolutionary War. He was wounded and escaped and immigrated to America. Congressman James Fulton of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania sponsored his naturalization. Stephen then honorably served in the United States Coast Guard during Cuban Missile Crisis. After serving he worked for National Castings Company in Farrell, PA and married the love of his life, Eleanor. The family then relocated to Schererville, and he continued to work as a consultant for Amsted Rail until he retired. After retirement most of his years were devoted towards his compassionate and loving care he gave towards his wife. Visitation will be Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 10:00 am until the time of his funeral at 1:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.
