

Steve Alex Peto, 84, passed away peacefully at his home on June 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 19, 1940, in East Chicago, IN, the son of Samuel and Erma Peto of Perkupa, Hungary.
Steve graduated from Morton High School, Class of 1958. Following graduation, he served as a Private with the US Army in Germany. Steve celebrated 60 years of marriage in January with his wife, Marilyn (Chickie) Peto.
Steve was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Hessville, IN.
He retired from Inland Steel after 30 years of service.
In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Cunningham. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Marilyn, are his daughter, Laura (Jaden Falcone) and her husband, Charles Trzcinka; his daughter, Cynthia Marx and her husband John; his son, Steven; and two grandchildren, Gemma Marx and Brennan Marx.
Steve was very proud of his Hungarian heritage. He was a diehard White Sox fan and enjoyed gardening and nature. Steve loved fishing, White Castle hamburgers, and 50’s rock and roll music.
Steve and his family would like to thank his loving and loyal caregivers.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life later this summer.
A visitation for Steve will be held Friday, June 27, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. A private entombment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
