Velma Mae Hunter

Velma Mae Hunter (nee Green) age 89, peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021. She is survived by her children, Matthew (Laura) Hunter, Mark Hunter, Ruth Duran (nee Hunter), John (Cyndy) Hunter, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Matthew Hunter, Jr.; sister, Marie Rosenberger and brother, the Reverend Kenneth Green.
Velma was born February 27, 1931 in Champaign, IL to the late Francis Roy and Pearlie B. Green and was a graduate of Champaign High School. She earned her BA from Life Bible College (now Life Pacific University). On July 22, 1955, Velma married the love of her life. Together they raised 4 children, dozens of toy poodles and hundreds of angelfish and other aquatics. Velma loved to grow tomatoes, sing, and was quite the entrepreneur in the Kenosha, WI real estate market.
Velma was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
Friends may gather with the family on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 9:30-11:00 AM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue Crown Point, IN.
Velma will be laid to rest at Pine View Memorial Park in Beach Park IL.
