Wendell E. Merry, age 81, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Beverly; two children: Bonnie (Denis) Banach and Dale (Elaine) Merry; four grandchildren: Christopher Merry, Steven Banach, Bryan (Kelley) Merry, and Stephanie (Matthew) Keller; sister, Mildred (late James) Tinsley; brothers-in-law: Carl (Marie) Stavitzke Jr. and Gary Hernandez; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Freeman (Bessie) Merry; brother, Leroy (Helen) Merry; mother and father-in-law: Carl (Mary) Stavitzke Sr.; sister-in-law, Lavone Hernandez. Wendell was in the graduating class of “1951” at Whiting High School and retired from Inland Steel after 37 years. He was a great story teller, made many friends on the CB Radio and enjoyed westerns, bowling and working on cars but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Wendell will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 12, 2013 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., (one-half mile south of US 30) Schererville, IN with Rev. C. James Facklam officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. I remember being little when ever seeing Uncle Wendell, he was always happy joking with us kids. A very soft spoken man, happy in life. You are well loved and well be very much missed. Now you are at rest no more pain or sickness, walk were you may. Love you.
