William "Bill" Harvoth, age 93, of Cedar Lake, IN (formerly Las Vegas, NV), passed away, Sunday, May 10, 2026. Bill was born and raised in Gary, IN to William and Mary Harvoth. He graduated from Tolleston High School and from there served in the US Navy. He was a retired police sergeant from the Gary Police Department and, following retirement, he worked security for LTV Steel.
Bill was married to Veronica (nee Oslizlo) for 41 years, until her death in 1996. Following her passing, he married Cynthia Mustafa, and they shared 22 years together before she passed in 2020.
Bill is survived by his loving daughters, Cyndi Ninkovich and Dianne (Raymond) Koch; grandchildren, Ashlee (Bryan) Skaggs, Matthew (Ana) Ninkovich, Michael (Stacey) Ninkovich, Tony (Lauren) Tousignant, Craig (Angela) Tousignant, Amy (Boone) Scheer, Evan (Melanie) Koch, and Garrett Koch; and ten adoring great-grandchildren. Bill is further survived by brothers, David (Janet) Harvoth, Dennis (Debbie) Harvoth, and Dale (Susan) Harvoth. Bill spent the last few years with his special friend, JoAnn Padget, in Las Vegas before it was time for them to both return home to family.
Bill is preceded in death by his dear son, William (surviving Jennifer) Harvoth; and son-in-law, Mike Ninkovich.
Bill lived life large. Besides his numerous travel excursions, he bowled three times a week until the age of 91 and, at the age of 88, he checked skydiving off of his bucket list. He will be remembered for his gift of gab, therefore making numerous friends throughout his lifetime, most of whom he outlived. When asked in his 80's how he still managed to have so many friends, his reply was always, "I keep finding younger ones." He loved card games such as Pinochle and Cribbage and watching sporting events, especially the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears. He was ecstatic to see IU win its first football championship in 59 years.
Since returning to Indiana, Bill became a recent member of St. Michael the Archangel National Catholic Church, where a private service will be held.
