Byron was born in Groves, Texas and grew up in Alabama. He spent most of his adult life in Georgia and Texas. He passed away, Friday, October 29 from lung cancer and other complications. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. B.F. Hixon and mother Sadie Wright Hixon and a nephew Byron Kenyon Krause.
He is survived by one sister, Theresa Hixon Krause and her husband Robert K. Krause, nephew, Raymond Kendrick Krause and two grand nephews, Michael Kenyon Krause and Jason Kendrick Krause.
Byron specified cremation followed by a military funeral at the DFW National Cemetery. The ceremony will take place November 8, 2010. A preceding memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Chapel of First Baptist Church, Plano.
Byron served with the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the ice breaker “Eastwind”. He completed two tours of duty to the Antartic in support of building a permanent multi-national operations base for weather research and exploration. Byron was also an active member of Masons in Atlanta.
