Clara Frances Walvoord Hudspeth, age 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 28, 2021.

Clara was born in Baskin, Louisiana on November 3, 1932 to Alvin and Lillie (Guice) Walvoord. Al was a Postmaster and Lil was a teacher. Clara has one brother, Alvin Walvoord Jr. Her family moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1943 when she was 11 years old. Clara graduated high school at the age of 17 and attended Baylor University in Waco, TX. She transferred to Trinity University in San Antonio, TX after receiving a scholarship in music performance. Clara received her Bachelor of Music degree from Trinity in the summer of 1953. She sang at many of the churches in San Antonio for services, weddings, and funerals. Clara attended First Baptist Church of San Antonio where she met her husband, William Howard Hudspeth. They were married in September of 1953 just after he was discharged from the USAF. Clara and Bill were married two weeks short of 60 years before Bill’s death in 2013. During their marriage, they lived in Memphis, TN, Jackson, TN, Lexington, KY, Shreveport, LA, Cincinnati, OH, Chicago, IL, Danville, CA, and lastly, Plano, TX! Along the way they had two children, Lynne & Lee, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren!

Clara worked in their home taking care of her husband and children throughout their marriage. She was an excellent cook, and was always ready to whip up one of her family's favorites. She played piano and had a beautiful singing voice which she continually shared in her church services wherever they lived. She was also a member of the Lexington Singers while living in Lexington, KY. She enjoyed hobbies like sewing clothes, cross stitch, and was an avid reader, enjoying all types of books and magazines. She was a very good crossword puzzle worker and could play a "mean" game of Scrabble, too!!

Clara is survived by her brother, Alvin Walvoord Jr. (sister-in-law Dolores) of Midland, TX, her daughter Lynne Knight (son-in-law Tim) of College Station, TX, son Lee Hudspeth (daughter-in-law Susan) of Plano, TX, granddaughters Sara Lauderdale (grand-son-in-law Scotty) of Lubbock, TX, Katie Gross (grand-son-in-law Zach) of Plano, Kelsey Hudspeth of Plano, grandsons James Knight of College Station and Brett Hudspeth of Plano, and great grandchildren Jesse, Jamie & Jodie Lauderdale, and Finn & Briggs Gross. Also survived by nephew David Walvoord (wife Jenifer) and niece Leanna Bond (husband Kirk) of Temple, TX and grandnephew Adam Walvoord and grandnieces Annalise and Sarah Kate Bond.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers to please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association (ACT.ALZ.ORG). Revelations 21:4

Clara and I were close friends during our college years. We were in several singing groups together, including the Trinitonians, under the direction of Bernice Barry. Also, I loved her family, and spent much time with them in social occasions. Somehow, we lost track of each other over the years (as many college friends do) but I have always thought fondly of Clara over the years. My best wishes go to her family.
