It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Craig Michael Vecchiola passed away on Monday, June 18th, at the age of 67 after a two and a half year battle with prostate cancer.
Our faith provides comfort that Craig is at peace with our Lord & Savior.
Craig was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on March 8, 1951 to Charles and Frances Vecchiola. He was the youngest of 3 children and was preceded in death by his parents and his precious sister, Carol. He is survived by his brother, Charles, as well as by his wife of 36 years, Lorraine, and their children, Cristen (Dustin) and Michael (Sarah). Craig has always had a special relationship with his nieces and nephews and we are all grieving his loss.
Craig graduated from Fox Chapel High School in Pittsburgh in 1969 and from John Carroll University in 1974. He began his long and successful career in Mortgage Banking as a Loan Officer. In 1982, Craig was offered a job with Merrill Lynch managing their Pittsburgh Mortgage offices. In 1984 he transferred to Dallas and began to build on his opportunity.
Craig built a legacy of strong, successful, profitable and reputable business ventures through his professional and personal relationships with his bright, motivated and loyal team. His career took him from Merrill Lynch to Shawmut & Accubanc in 1987. In October of 1995, Craig & his friend and partner, Bill Harrington, opened their own Mortgage Company, Muirfield Mortgage.
Muirfield was a great adventure and very successful until in December of 1999, they agreed to sell their company to National City which brought them back to working with well respected friends & colleagues. As the business changed, Craig opted to finish his career at Colonial National Mortgage. He retired in 2015 after 40 years in the industry.
Craig loved his golf & his time with his golf buddies throughout the years. He played regularly at Prestonwood Country Club. He loved his Pittsburgh Steelers and we watched every game, every season, unless he was flying up to the game in person. He loved his Dallas Stars & the Pittsburgh Penguins and we enjoyed season tickets since the Stars arrived in Dallas. Craig loved his fishing trips to Boca with Leo & Buck & Steve, etc. He organized an annual “Beer-Fishing Man Trip” to the Red Fish Lodge for Michael, Dustin, & friends, Ryan & Sanders, as well as his beloved nephews, Anthony, Chris and Eric. He became “The Craig-Man” and those trips were the best!
Craig loved his family. He hung on for 1 last Father’s Day then he was ready to go. We will miss him forever but trust that he is at peace until we meet again.
