David Lockwood Hatch (January 18, 1940-February 26, 2014) was born in a doctor's office above a drug store on a cold and snowy day in Bay City, TX, to Donald and Merle Hatch. He grew up in Wichita Falls, and pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Texas Tech University, where he met his wife of fifty years, Kathy Leonard. After earning a degree in Political Science, he completed officer training in the U.S. Air Force and enrolled in flight school in preparation for duty in Vietnam. During a tour of duty as a C-123 pilot in Vietnam with the 309th Air Commando Squadron, where he also served as a Pilot instructor, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Medal (7 clusters), and the Distinguished Flying Cross for meritorious service in aerial flight. Following his time in Vietnam, he continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves in the 301st Tactical Fighter Wing until he retired after thirty-four years with the rank of Colonel.
Upon returning from Vietnam, David eventually flew for American Airlines while working on his law degree from SMU. His professional life was filled with over thirty years of practicing law in the Dallas area. Additionally, he was an avid athlete who loved to be outside playing tennis or golf.
David was a family man through it all. His love for Kathy was always evident and his dedication to his children and grandchildren was heartfelt. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Neal Hatch and Steve Hatch.
