

He was born in Newark, New Jersey on April 1, 1926. The family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he went to school. He joined the ROTC and became an Officer and immediately after graduation joined the Navy. He was assigned to the USS Dixie which saw duty in the Philippines and China. After returning home he went to school at Michigan Tech and then transferred to the Colorado School of Mines to achieve his degree as a Geophysical Engineer. While at Michigan Tech he met his soon-to-be wife, Elaine Keranen, and they were married in 1948 in Golden, Colorado while at the school.
Don then went on to work for Phillips 66 for his entire career. There was a lot of moving, following the oil around. Donald worked his way up to crew chief. The 3 children were all born in the moves. Douglas, in 1950 in Borger, TX, before moving into western Oklahoma. Diana, in 1953 in Borger before going South to New Mexico. William was born in Pratt, Kansas in 1955, before moving to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Don now had a desk job and worked in the downtown office. Don and Elaine moved to Houston, Texas, in 1973, and finally retired from Phillips in 1985. The final move brought Don and Elaine to Plano, Texas, to be closer to family.
Don’s wife Elaine preceded him in death in 2021. Surviving Donald are his 3 children, Douglas and his wife Karen, Diana Case, and William and his wife Maria. 4 grand grandchildren, Doug’s girls, Michelle and Christina, Bill’s boys, Brian and James & 12 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
The Funeral will be in Grand Rapids Michigan, in 2024.
