Don Quartel, born in Akron, Ohio, on March 17, 1946, went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2025. Don was born to Donald Paul Quartel and Euguina Quartel and was the oldest of three sons. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, graduating from John Marshall High School in 1964.
In 1972, Don was working for Richman Brothers' Men's Clothing store, where he was transferred to Dallas, Texas, to open one of their first stores in Texas at Town East Mall. He spent most of his working years in retail, and at the end of his working years, he drove a school bus for Frisco ISD.
Much of Don’s time outside of work was spent in various activities at First Baptist Richardson. He loved singing in the choir and working in the youth area. He gave his heart to serving in these areas and many other ways in the 48 years he was a member at First Richardson. He loved people. He never met a stranger, always welcoming and talking with anyone he saw, and always willing to share his opinion on any number of topics happening in the world. Don made people feel special, helping meet the needs of those he encountered.
He loved and cared for his family. He was so proud of his children, Scott and Carrie, and loved going to anything they were a part of. His grandchildren, Bradley, Ava Mae, Zoe, and AddiKate, were always a source of joy and pride for him. In the last few years, he wasn’t able to go to as many of their activities as he would have liked to.
Don is survived by his wife, Margaret; his son, Scott Quartel, and Scott’s wife, Sarah; his daughter, Carrie Canaday, and Carrie’s husband, Jason; and his grandchildren: Bradley Quartel, Ava Canaday, Zoe Quartel, and Addi Kate Canaday. He also leaves behind his three nephews: Phil, Jon, and Brian Quartel.
Don’s life was a gift to all who knew him. Though deeply missed, his love and example will remain in our hearts forever.
