Donna Faye Mawson

Donna was born in April 1945 in East St. Louis, Illinois, to Paula and Omar Stacey. Paula subsequently married Glen Hancock, who Donna loved dearly as her step-father. Donna's childhood was adventurous, living on several air force bases, including her favorite memory of a year spent in Guam where her school door let out to warm, sandy beaches. Donna was the pride of the Vacaville High School (CA) Bulldogs as a vivacious and enthusiastic member of the cheer squad!

Donna met the love of her life, Jim Mawson on a blind date in San Francisco in the summer of 1964. They married October 10, 1964 and began their family with the birth of their daughter Cathy in 1965 and Kim in 1972. Donna was the backbone of the family, supporting Jim in his career as an architect, criss-crossing the country from California to New York to Seattle and finally Richardson, Texas. Each move only served to expand Donna's ever growing circle of friends who she kept in contact with for the rest of her life.

Donna's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world. Donna was the best PTA "room mother", Girl Scout leader and field trip chaperone that you could imagine. She opened her home to exchange students, sleep overs, Brownie meetings, and school fund raisers. Donna never missed a school play, choir performance or sports event. Although Donna was an only child, she loved her first cousins like sisters and many warm family memories were created on extended car trips to visit cousins across the country.

Donna found her work family when she joined the Travelers Insurance Group and built a 33 year career as a workers compensation benefit specialist. Everyone became family to Donna and she attended weddings, baptisms, graduations and a regular "ladies group" for beverages. Donna remembered EVERYONES birthday or anniversary and regularly sent cards of care, "thinking of you" and well wishes to her coworkers. Although her daughter's tried to convince Donna to retire, she truly loved the people she worked with; she looked out for them and they always looked out for her.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Jim Mawson in 2021. she is survived by her daughters, Cathy dejong and Kim Costigan. Son in law, Bruce dejong. Grandchildren, Brandon dejong and his wife, Katy; Bradleigh dejong, Samantha Costigan, Jillian Costigan and Nick Costigan. Great grandchildren, Jackson and Aubrey dejong.

A celebration of life will be held on June 11, 2023 at 11:00am at the Canyon Country Club 625 W Lookout Drive, richardson 75080. Please wear a splash of red (Donna's favorite color) as we celebrate our mom, Nana, friend, and coworker.
