

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, Edwin, 94, heard His Master’s call one last time; he took the hand of his Savior and together they proceeded to Heaven. There to welcome Ed home were his beautiful wife of 61 years, Gladys M. Pickett; daughters, Sharon P. Maxwell, and Janet L. Pickett, as well as many other family members and friends who had died before him.
Ed attended high school in Tyler, Texas, graduating in 1948. He continued his studies at the University of Texas — Tyler and obtained his bachelor's degree in 1956 from the University of Texas — Austin (“Go Horns").
During his college years, Dad was called to serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean War; stationed in the Marshall and Aleutian Islands in the North Pacific Ocean. In 1954, he received an early out from the US Air Force to attend college in Tyler, Texas, his hometown.
Ed’s next station was Kirkland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was a devout Christian
and attended First Baptist Church. Gladys attended First Baptist Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she was extremely active. Ed, a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force, became close friends with Gladys. Ed, having written to Gladys talking about how “Sir Galahad” had built up walls around himself. A few days later, Gladys received a card from Ed stating that those walls had finally been broken down by her love and asked her to be his wife. Gladys' response was YES! Gladys and Ed were married on December 21, 1954.
Edwin received his certification as a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) in 1961. He started his accounting career the same year working for the Navajo tribe in Ganado, Az., before transitioning back to Texas for good. He and Gladys made Dallas their home and final resting place.
Ed worked in accounting practices in the Dallas area before becoming Partner with Travis & Ramsey, CPA, whom he worked with until 1981. That same year, he opened his own firm - Edwin R. Pickett, CPA. Gladys joined him as his Office Manager in 1985; Janet in 1987 in IT and accounting, and Steve Maxwell, also in 1987 as the 2nd CPA and minority partner. Edwin was a CPA for 63 years until May 2023.
Edwin was active and received his 50-year certificates from the Masonic Lodge of Texas, A.F. & A.M.; The Hella Shrine, and Order of Eastern Star (OES). He was an Endowed member of Edwin J. Kiest Chapter No. 959 (OES). Ed participated heavily with all three daughters in the Order of Rainbow for Girls and with Mark in the Order of DeMolay. Edwin’s favorite hobbies were working in his yard and flower gardens; making clothes for his children; “hooking” (latch- hook rugs and wall hangings); needle work coverings for household items; puzzles and a discerning buyer of the arts.
Ed and Gladys were blessed with four children: Sharon Anne Pickett Maxwell (Steve), Janet Lynn Pickett, Mark Andrew Pickett (Barbara), and Debbie Sue Pickett Smith (David).
Ed is survived by his son, Mark A. Pickett, and wife, Barbara S. Pickett. They have 2 children and spouses and 5 grandchildren. Ed’s remaining daughter, Debra (Debbie) Pickett Smith, and husband, David E. Smith. They have 3 children and spouse and 5 grandchildren. Ed is also survived by Steve D. Maxwell, who has 1 son and 2 grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on February 12, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Lakepointe Church - East Dallas, located at 9150 Garland Rd, Dallas, TX 75218.
The funeral service will follow on February 12, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the same location.
A committal service is scheduled for February 12, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225.
