

Eleanor Blasberg Gehricke was born on May 11, 1918 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She spent her girlhood in Elizabeth and graduated from Baton High School. Soon after graduation, she married and gave birth to her daughter Sandra Jean and her son Frederick. Eleanor attended Baptist churches in New Jersey and in Florida, and attended Unity Church of Dallas after moving to Texas.
Eleanor worked as a bank cashier and as a bookkeeper for Linden Lumber Company, but she was happiest when she worked as a library aid and teacher at the Matawan Library in New Jersey. She taught young people about art and was an artist herself. Her passions were painting, quilting, reading and gardening.
In June of 1963, Eleanor married Judge Walter Gehricke and moved to Matawan, New Jersey. Judge Gehricke predeceased Eleanor in 1995. She is survived by her sister, Lyda Girard of Rahway, New Jersey, her daughter Sandra Jean Benson of Palm Springs, California, son, Frederick (Rick) Reid and daughter-in-law Suellen Reid of Plano, Texas, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
