It took a long time for my memories of Elmer to settle down enough to write this. Above all, Elmer was never boring. A man of many contradictions, he inspired love, jealousy, dislike, admiration and loyalty. Thank you, Uncle Elmer, for your many gifts to me - your teaching, your wise advice, my first guitar, and, most memorably, Hank the crow.
Marti and Shelley, all Elmer's family, you are not alone in your loss. I hope you find comfort in the knowledge that many other people will miss him too.

My beautiful shining Starr, oh how I miss you. We shared so many beautiful memories together. You didn't just say you loved me but you also showed me how much you loved me. You were so gracious, so kind and so very loving. I cherish the time we had together during your last days. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. Everytime I look up at the stars in the sky, I know you'll be the Starr shining bright. I will always love you and you will always be in my ❤.

Elmer was one the fairest men & police officers I have ever known!!! I just wish the young officers of today could have a model such as Elmer to learn from....they would be much better for the experience. I am sure God took you to be one of his right hand angels and if you can hear me I love you brother and I will never forget our times together on the FWPD!!!

I never worked with Elmer while he was an officer, but of course heard all the stories as I was a detective on the East side. My last 10 years, as a sergeant, on the East side Elmer was a tremendous resources, asset, and friend. Great conversations on the shores of Lake Arlington as he fished at night. He would come and calm domestic "misunderstandings" and prevent a loved one or friend from going to jail.
Honoring your life, Elmer. Condolences and sympathy to your loved ones. This world is a worse place with your departure. Rest in peace, friend.

Old Elmer Starr how I miss you so much! You were such an amazing person, and the best Dad to me ever! I cant name one bad thing that he had ever done to me, he was always so caring and loving and such a sweet person. I talked to him almost everyday, spent the summer with him when i was a kid and i am going to miss you so much wish i could talk to you one last time, and listen to you call me sugarplum and you to tell me "I believe in you babygirl" He believed in me when i didnt even believed in myself and he loved me when i was incapable of loving myself. I love you Daddy and I miss you sooo much!!

I also worked on midnights on the north side with Elmer years ago. He had such a good influence on me as a young rookie and I still remember his wit and character to this day. He was one of the best friend and mentor that anyone could ask for. If I needed anything Elmer would be one of the first to help me out. Myself, like the others that knew and worked with him, were blessed to have known him. Our Father in Heaven is getting a good one with Elmer..... See you soon my friend.
