

Frances Shoemaker Hamilton, age 87 passed away on December 5, 2011 after a brief illness. She was born on June 27, 1924 in Falkville, Alabama to Miles and Margaret Shoemaker. She was one of eight children and all of them predeceased her. She lived in Garland, Texas. She is preceded in death by her spouse of 64 years, Elmer Hollis Hamilton, as well as her infant daughter Kathryn Hamilton. Frances is survived by her daughter Janice Thomas of Plano, Texas, her son in law Stephen Thomas and by her sister-in-Law Goldie Shoemaker of Sun City, California. Also surviving are special nieces Margaret Arrington of Battleground, Alabama, Sue (Mike) Jones of Nashville, Tennessee, Dorothy (Doyle) Smith of Massey, Alabama, Terry Tsuchida of Torrance, California and by special nephews Theron (Charlotte) Hamilton of Trinity, Alabama, Herman (Barbara) Shoemaker of Mobile, Alabama and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Frances moved to Longview Texas in 1968 and then to Garland Texas in 1988. She worked in Morgan County Alabama school system as a bus driver and in the cafeteria and at the Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview. After retirement she worked in the mother’s day out at The First Baptist Church in Longview. She enjoyed her garden that consumed her entire front yard. Frances loved to share plants with everyone and enjoyed sitting outside and visiting with everyone who came by.
Funeral services will on December 7, 2011, at 3:30 pm at the Ted Dickey West Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to service. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception room. Her remains will be transported to Falkville Alabama where she will be buried at Lebanon Baptist Church after a final memorial service in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Faith Presbyterian Hospice, 4350 Sigma Rd., Suite 400, Dallas, Texas 75244.
