Gerald Anthony McGreevy, known as Jerry to family and friends, passed away on January 1st, 2026. He was born on January 13th, 1936 in Oak Park, Illinois, and was the youngest of four children born to John and Marie Curran McGreevy. He enjoyed growing up in the Chicago area and was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears (he was particularly proud of their 1985 Super Bowl win), and the Chicago Cubs (especially after a 108-year drought, when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016). Jerry graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was during those college years that he met Patricia (Pat) Clancy, the love of his life. Jerry and Pat enjoyed a long and loving marriage of over 65 years, and their union was blessed with three children - Bob, Beth, and David, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. During the course of their marriage, Jerry and Pat have resided in Oak Park, Indianapolis, Houston, and ultimately Richardson, Texas - where they have lived happily for the last 53 years.
Jerry was a loving husband and father who had an enduring influence and support over both his immediate and extended family. In addition to his own children and grandchildren, he had a devoted cohort of nieces and nephews, who called on and received his advice and guidance over the years. Several have shared that they considered Uncle Jerry/Uncle Gus as a “second Dad”. This devotion from his extended family was reflected by large attendance at reunion parties for Jerry and Pat’s 50th wedding anniversary in 2010 and his 80th birthday in 2016.
Over the years, Jerry loved being active in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was an avid reader, volunteered with his neighborhood Crime Watch Patrol, and loved playing golf and tennis when he was physically able. Jerry was also honored to serve as Chairman of the Board of Governors of Canyon Creek Country Club in 2006.
Professionally, Jerry’s career began in the steel industry in sales/marketing management roles before spending 20 years in leadership positions with Cummins Engine Co. where he directed a large National Accounts department for one of its subsidiaries – Fleetguard.
After retiring from his sales career, Jerry then became managing partner of a new outplacement consulting business, The Transition Team, where he provided both individual and group executive support. Finally in his career, Jerry co-founded and led the highly respected Executive Round Table (ERT DFW), an officer level networking group that provided peer-to-peer exchange of information, ideas and support in the job transition process. The group mentored hundreds of senior executives to extend their careers. Jerry had a devoted following of professionals who were helped in their career development, and his retirement from ERT in 2019 was marked by a special celebration that drew a large number of his current and former mentees from the program.
Jerry is predeceased by his parents John and Marie McGreevy; his brothers, John and Alan McGreevy; his sister, Eileen McGreevy Cote; his nephew, James McGreevy; and his sister in-law, Mary Jane Frowert.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pat McGreevy; his son, Bob McGreevy of San Jose, CA and his children, Molly, Jack and Ally McGreevy; his daughter, Beth Dworak of Carrollton, TX and her children, Ryan Dworak and Amy Williams, along with her husband Chris and children Asher and Addison Williams; and his son David McGreevy of Barrington, IL, along with his wife Kim and children Matthew, Kate and Meredith McGreevy. Jerry is also survived by his adoring nieces and nephews and their families, including George (Melanie) Frowert, Matt (Ibolya) Frowert, Nancy Frowert, and John (Vickie) Frowert, Judy (Bob) Steed, John Cote, Gilles Cote, Mark (Cate) Cote, Eileen Cote Johnson (Roger), and Andre (Marie Josie) Cote.
Jerry was blessed with many visits from his friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and dear friends that are like family, Jo Moody and Susie Kilayko.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Noma, Clive and Sheilla at the Campbell Home for their exceptional care, compassion and support.
Jerry leaves behind a legacy defined by devotion—to his family, his friends, his work, and the communities he touched. His steady presence, generous spirit, great sense of humor, and unwavering commitment to lifting others up will continue to echo through the many lives he shaped. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he shared and the example he set endure in the family he cherished and the countless people he guided with kindness and integrity. His was a life well lived, and his memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him.
