

Gretchen Mary Crotty, age 72 of Farmersville, Texas passed away suddenly on Saturday March 20, 2021. Gretchen was born, Marguerite Gretchen Mary Vogt, Tuesday, August 3, 1948 in Buffalo, New York to Marguerite (Schwarz) Vogt and Henry Vogt. She was the second born of five siblings: Gregory, Gretchen, Gloria, Geraldine, and Gwendolyn.
Gretchen grew up in Buffalo, New York. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy High School. She went on to graduate from Rosary Hill College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She spent one semester of her college career as a foreign exchange student in Lima, Peru. She had several careers throughout her life, including administration, accounting, bookkeeping, and small business ownership.
Gretchen Vogt married the love of her life, Michael Crotty, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Snyder, New York. During their 50 years of marriage, they were blessed with four beautiful children (Carrie Ann, Colleen Marie, Douglas Michael, and Cheryl Lynn) and 12 grandchildren.
Gretchen was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and nana. As a mother, Gretchen supported all her children’s interest in soccer, drill team, orchestra, sports, choir, and girl scouts. Gretchen created a loving and nurturing home by meeting her families spiritual, emotional, and physical needs. She had a natural gift of making people feel welcome. Anyone who entered her home, was welcomed with open arms, and cared for as one of her own. Gretchen and Mike were skilled at bringing people together to build strong relationships with family, community, and colleagues. While balancing a family, Gretchen was a faithful servant to her church and business community. She had a gift to lead others. She had an entrepreneurial spirit. Gretchen was known for her involvement in PTA, Richardson Symphony League, Leadership Richardson, Wildflower Festival, Civic Fundraisers, and Women in Business. Gretchen and Mike devoted their time to marriage preparation classes through their church, as well as taught Sunday school classes. Reading was her passion. She loved crocheting blankets and gifts for her family. In retirement, they travelled extensively in their RV throughout the US and Canada. They loved the National Parks and had visited 45 parks throughout their 13 years of travel. Gretchen and Mike liked to celebrate their marriage vows with family trips. Their last trip was in December 2020 where they celebrated 50 years of marriage with their 4 children and 12 grandchildren in Broken Bow, OK.
Gretchen was preceded in death by her mother, Marguerite (Schwarz) Vogt; her father, Henry Paul Vogt; stepmother, Rose (Ford) Vogt; and her sisters, Geraldine, and Gloria.
Gretchen (Vogt) Crotty is survived by her husband, Michael Crotty, of 50 years; her brother Gregory Vogt and sister Gwendolyn (Vogt) Balogh; her children and spouses: daughter, Carrie (Crotty) Lindsey and son-in-law, Paul Lindsey; daughter, Colleen (Crotty) Clemens and son-in-law, Casey Clemens; son, Doug Crotty, and daughter-in-law, Shelly (Dickerson) Crotty; daughter Cheryl (Crotty) Wright and son-in-law, Shannon Wright; and 12 grandchildren: Kailey Lindsey, Tyler Crotty, Lauren Crotty, Kristin Lindsey, Austin Wright, Cody Crotty, Hailee Clemens, Melanie Wright, Trent Wright, Hagen Clemens, Liberty Clemens and Samantha Clemens.
A Celebration of Life in-person service will be held for Gretchen (Vogt) Crotty on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. CST at First Baptist Church Farmersville located at 124 South Washington Street, Farmersville, Texas 75442.
