Helen R. Upton

Born 1921 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, she met her husband, Andrew James Upton Jr., in San Francisco at the end of World War II, 1945. Helen is survived by 3 daughters: Karen Toombs with husband Tommy Toombs of Carrollton, TX, Beth Gordon of Georgetown, TX, and Andi Lawson with husband Hugh Lawson of Asheboro, NC. Also 6 grandchildren: Nia Miller, Chris Russell, Rebecca Wilson, Danny Lawson, Tyler Toombs, & Amanda Corbett, and 8 great grandchildren.

Examples of organizations Helen participated in include: Tawakoni, Texas - Outstanding Senior Volunteer for Texas Department of Aging, treasurer for West Tawakoni Baptist Church, and in Asheboro, North Carolina - Crossroads Retirement Community (a Servant’s Heart), and Christian United Outreach Center.

A private family service was held January 17 at the Toomb’s home. Mrs. Upton will be interred at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery with her husband of 62 years, who passed in 2008.
