Hank was born in Mobile, Alabama on June 16, 1948 to Henry Holcombe Malone Jr. and Philomena “Penny” (McCuskey) Malone. He grew up there and graduated from W. P. Davidson High School in 1966. He played football and delighted in the company of many friends. Growing up, Hank was often found spending time outside, especially at the beach in Gulf Shores with his family.
After high school, Hank and his family moved to Texas. He earned degrees in accounting from Odessa College and the University of Texas Permian Basin. His career in oil and gas accounting allowed him to live in several locations throughout Texas, where he formed several close friendships. Hank moved to the Dallas area in his final years to be closer to family.
Hank had many interests in life, especially a love of fast cars and motorcycles, particularly his Harley Davidson. He traveled to all corners of the country on his Harley, attended motorcycle rallies and visited famous landmarks and national parks. Hank’s love of travel allowed him to experience trips to Ireland and Australia. He always had an affinity for Ireland, where he had many family members from his mother’s side. That love and interest only deepened after his journey. Hank enjoyed camping, fishing and sports. He was an avid fan of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide and also loved the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys.
Hank was a loving father, a devoted grandfather and remained close with his sister and extended family. His relationship with God was a cornerstone in his life and he always strived to live according to His word. Hank would always lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Penny Malone.
Survivors left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Elizabeth Balkema (husband, Daniel), granddaughter, Lily Balkema, grandson, Andrew Balkema, all of McKinney, Texas, sister Donna Omar (husband, Ed) of Midland Texas, nieces Ann Barrett (husband, Richard) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Janet Antone (husband, Taylor) of Plano Texas, as well as grand-nephews, a grand-niece, beloved cousins, extended relatives and numerous friends.
Hank’s final wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes spread in the waters of Gulf Shores, Alabama. A memorial for this will be announced at a later date.
