Henry was born on March 25,1941, in Granger, Texas to Ludmilla Slavik Zrubek and William Joseph Zrubek. From an early age, he demonstrated a remarkable spirit—curious, compassionate, and quietly determined. He carried these qualities throughout a life devoted to family and faith, an unmatched work ethic, and a genuine love for humanity and nature that touched all who knew him.
A graduate of Bartlett High School and University of Texas, Henry also served in the U.S. Navy as an airman in San Diego, Alaska, Japan, Hawaii, and The Philippines. In 1967, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Linda Ann Janke. The couple began their life together in Austin. He went on to build a career as an engineering project manager at Texas Instruments in Dallas, where he was respected for his talent and dedication. After almost a decade at TI, Henry began his journey in the roofing business as a VP of Operations and head of residential roofing. Later, he transitioned his side of the business and became Henry Z Roofing. He believed in doing things honestly and sensibly. He changed so many lives in building others up and lifting those he knew along the journey.
Beyond professional accomplishments, Henry found joy in the simple and enduring parts of life: nature and animals, especially observing the birds and their song; University of Texas sports; being a great “Papaw” and storyteller; and reaching out for great conversations with friends and family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell jokes!
Henry is survived by his loving wife Linda Ann Janke Zrubek, his two daughters Melanie and Heather and their spouses Shawn and Will, grandchildren Davis, Delaney and Elise, his brother James and sisters Mary Alice and Georgia, sister-in-law Debra Caldwell, and many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ludmilla Zrubek, his brother Bill, his sisters Dorothy and Beatrice, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
We knew Henry as a man of strength, laughter, faith, and generosity. His presence was a steady light, and his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled—but a legacy that will endure in so many ways
