Hollis Virginia Bunker Canterbury was born June 20, 1936 in Iowa City, IA and passed away September 1, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Holly moved to Palo Alto, CA in 1937 and to Colorado Springs, CO in 1941. After the war, Holly and her mother moved to Cripple Creek, CO where she graduated from Cripple Creek-Victor High School with 10 other students! In 1954, Holly enrolled at the University of Colorado where she studied for 2 years before leaving for the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. After returning to Colorado Springs to work for Colorado Interstate Gas, Holly moved to Dallas where she met her future husband, Robert White Canterbury. They were married in Boulder, CO, as Robert had taken a job in Denver. Their first child was born in Denver in 1960. They moved several times, including Philadelphia, PA where their second child was born in 1962. They finally settled in Dallas, TX where they started their own business, eventually joining a friend in a new business. The business was located in Addison, TX and named Holly Enterprises. The couple watched Addison grow from a small community into the vibrant town it has become, eventually moving their residence to the town. Holly was a tireless volunteer for numerous causes and was not someone you could say no to! If she asked you for something, you would be wise to agree or she would wear you down until you said yes. Holly and Robert left quite a legacy, helping many people begin businesses, many charities thrive and a family that will strive to live up to their standards. They were honored with a proclamation from the Town of Addison on August 27th for their years of dedication to the Town and WaterTower Theatre. Holly was preceded in death by parents Hazel W. and Harry S. Bunker, step mother Laureda T. Bunker, husband Robert W. Canterbury. Holly is survived by son James and daughter-in-law Angie, son Michael and daughter-in-law Liese, Grandchildren Connor and Cayla, many nephews, nieces and cousins, and her adopted family Michael, Yvonne, Jennifer, Caitlin, Byron, Hannah Saunders and great granddaughter Amy Campbell.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday September 6, 2012 at Christ Church Anglican, 4550 Legacy Dr., Plano, TX 75024 at 1:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Holly’s life at Lefty’s Restaurant, 4021 Beltline Rd, Addison, TX.
