

James Kent Dailey, Jr. of Plano, Texas, passed away May 25, 2026, at the age of 74. Jim was born in Crockett, Texas on July 12, 1951, to James Kent Dailey and Hazel Scarborough Dailey. He grew up in his hometown of Grapeland, Texas and graduated from Grapeland High School in 1969. Jim went on to receive a B.S. degree in Secondary Education from Texas State University in 1974, and a Master of Education in 1977, from Sam Houston State University.
Jim married his wife, Jan, on June 17, 1999, and they made their home in Plano for many years.
Jim had a 42-year career in High School coaching in many schools in East Texas, Pflugerville, Plano and at Trinity Christian Academy. He was a well-loved coach to many student-athletes in football and track. In 1995, he had the privilege of coaching the Pflugerville High School team that won a State Track Championship in their division.
Jim was passionate about sports and enjoyed playing golf with his friends. He was known for his faith in Christ, big laugh, kindness and generosity. He was an active member of Parkway Hills Baptist Church in Plano.
He is survived by his wife, Jan, nephew Steven Skidmore (Robbin), brother-in-law Gerald Skidmore (Carol), Sheila Skidmore (David), and two great nieces Taylor Blissit (Scott) and Madison Wilder (Blair) and their children. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Joyce Ann Skidmore, and nephew David Skidmore.
A memorial of Jim’s life will be held on Friday, June 5 at 1 p.m. at Parkway Hills Baptist Church in Plano, 2700 Dallas Parkway. A private burial will take place at Dailey Community Cemetery.
