

Janice was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma. She graduated from Hobbs High in 1963 and Eastern New Mexico University in 1968 with a master's degree in business education. She taught business classes at Hobbs High from 1968-1970. In 1971, Janice married her High School Sweetheart (Wiley Berry), and they started their married life in Midland TX. While in Midland Janice went to work for Xerox Corporation as a dispatcher from 1971-1973. In 1973, when Wiley was offered a transfer to Houston TX with Shell Oil Company, Janice was also able to transfer with Xerox. While in Houston (1973- 1980) Janice was promoted into a managerial position with Xerox.
From 1980-1988 she lived in Cameroon West Africa and Bakersfield CA. During that time, Janice achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a full-time volunteer". In Cameroon she was active in the International Women's Club, on the Board of the International School, member of the French Club and active in the Church of Christ Missionary Church and School. In Bakersfield she was a volunteer at the Henrietta Wilde Child Guidance Center, and Chairperson of the Newcomers Ski Committee.
After returning to the Houston area (Fulshear TX) in 1988, Janice became active in the First Baptist Church of Katy TX and eventually became the secretary to the youth minister in the early 1990's. After three years at the Church, she joined the CPA firm of Aaronson White & Company as their office manager from 1993 to 1998. While working at the CPA firm, in July 1997 she was diagnosed with a serious heart disease that required a heart transplant. That led to her retirement in November 1998. Thanks to a wonderful female organ donor, exceptional doctors and medical staff, she received a heart transplant at The Methodist Hospital- Houston TX in 2000 that extended her life for 23+ years ... God Bless Organ Donors!
During her lifetime, she became a Christian at a young age and sought God's guidance throughout her life. She always felt blessed by our Lord and Savior "Jesus Christ" and thankful for a wonderful life, family, friends, career and her travels throughout the United States and the World.
Janice is survived by her husband of 53 years, Wiley W. Berry of Dallas and her sister, Joy A. Buhalts of Hobbs NM. While she never had children of her own, Janice cherished her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John F. Buhalts, Jr. and Thelma M. Buhalts of Hobbs NM and her brother John F. Buhalts, IIJ of Jal NM.
A small family graveside service will be held in Hobbs NM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association and/or the American Cancer Society. Finally, if you aren't already, please consider becoming an Organ Donor".
