Jean Ann Mason

MASON, Jean Ann Simpson, formerly of Robinson, Illinois and Alexandria, Virginia passed away December 19, 2015 at home with her family at her side. She was born November 11, 1925 to Arthur and Annie Simpson, and spent her youth in Cleveland, Ohio. She later moved to Virginia and worked for the Small Business Administration in Washington, DC. She met her husband of 55 years, Roy Carrington Mason, Sr. in Alexandria, poolside at Hunting Towers following a simple miscue. Roy was swatting away a fly and Jean thought he was waving to her. She walked over to say hello and the romance began. They were married in February of 1961 and anticipated a daughter arriving in March, 1962. Unfortunately, their infant, Mary Ann did not survive, but in April of 1963 they welcomed their son Carrington. Her proud profession of wife and homemaker continued upon moving to Robinson, Il and subsequently to Plano, Tx in 1974. Jean was a dedicated volunteer in the community, most notably giving every Tuesday to the Plano General Hospital (now Medical Center of Plano) for over 30 years. She provided companionship and transport to numerous elder members of her church. A magnificent cook, opinionated conversationalist, and certainly the last person to leave any social event, she will be greatly missed by those left to cherish her memory. She is survived by her husband Roy, of Plano, Son Dr. Carrington Mason, daughter in law Kari Ewing Mason, and her beloved grandson Brennan Mason. Also surviving is her brother James Simpson of Cleveland, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge the tremendous care given to Jean by her team of caregivers Donna Carr, Jackline Mogambi, Anne Rutunu, and Ednah Lagat. The family also wishes to express their gratitude to Grace Hospice, specifically Tina and Florence, her angels in her final days.
