Just shy of a century, Gigi was reunited with her beloved husband David, Sunday September 25th. Born in Woods Cross, UT in 1920, daughter of Salome and Lee Travis, she lived a wonderful life. Jean graduated from Amarillo High School in 1937. After graduation she attended USC and graduated from the School of Business in 1942. She was very proud of the fact that she was one of the first female graduates of the School of Business and the “most senior” graduate of USC in the state of Texas in 2020. After leaving USC she moved back to Dallas to be with her Mother and Father. Family was her first priority so she moved into the house on Preston Road to help her mother 78 years ago and there she remained until her passing. Though she never worked, she was very active with her father’s interest in the East Texas oilfields assisting in every way she was able too. She met the love of her life David Witts on a blind date in Dallas and they remained happily married for 50 plus years. Their love of travel together as a family would take them to all the continents of the world with exception to Antarctica. Jean loved competition and was a passionate tennis player at T Bar M as a founding member. Many of the trips Jean and David took involved tennis; Garden of the Gods Club in Colorado Springs, John Gardiner Tennis Ranches in Scottsdale, AZ and Carmel, CA making many lifelong friends along the way. She played tennis up until age 87 until her hip and knee wouldn’t let her continue. She loved college football and was a supporter of the USC Trojan Athletic Club since its inception. She followed her granddaughter’s alma maters of OSU and OU every season and was perhaps a bigger fan than they were... Sundays you would always find Gigi working crossword puzzles, watching the PGA or fussing about the Cowboys inability to win a super bowl for the last 25 years. Gigi was very proud of her rose gardens. For many years she kept them immaculately maintained and in the spring were something to behold along Preston Road. She was a longtime member of The Dallas Woman’s Club, Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, Dallas Opera, Garden of the Gods Club and the Park City Club. David would always comment that Gigi had a full time job keeping up with his exploits a.k.a. “assisted living at its finest”. Her most treasured personal achievement was raising “the perfect daughter”, perfect son in law and being a large part in the lives of Emily and Cassidy her granddaughter’s, whom she loved dearly, giving constant encouragement and undying support. Gigi had an innate sense of fashion and always dressed very elegant, not at all extravagant but very classy. Her faith, unconditional love, grace, humility and generosity were traits we will all hold dear and carry forward in our lives. She always kept a positive thought no matter what life brought her until the very end, Fight On!!
Jean was preceded in death by her Husband David.
And survived by her daughter Elane, son in Law John, Granddaughters Emily and Cassidy Hansen. Our Family requests your prayers and please raise a toast to Jean even though Elane wouldn’t allow her to partake in a small half glass of wine in her later years…
A private family graveside service will be held Friday, October 2nd at Sparkman Hillcrest. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorials in Jean’s honor can be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 5923 Royal Lane, Dallas, TX 75230.
We wish to thank the wonderful care so unselfishly and lovingly given by Linda Stubbs, Tonya Smith and Maxine Alridge.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.teddickeywestfuneral.com for the Witts family.
