Joan Marie Heald

Joan is survived by her daughter Katrina Heald Welch of Dallas, Texas (and her husband Jim and children James, Katherine, and Luke). She is preceded in death by her parents Hubert Lee Burden and Esther Marie Burden.

Joan was born on September 28, 1939, in Dallas, Texas to Hubert and Esther Burden. She graduated from W.H. Adamson High School in 1957. She graduated from the University of North Texas in 1961 with a degree in Psychology, and she also attended Tulane and graduated in 1969 with a Masters in Psychiatric Social Work. She married Jim Heald in 1962.

They lived in Seattle for a short time before moving to Holland while Jim served in the Air Force. Shortly after returning to Seattle, Katrina was born.

After moving back to Dallas, Joan spent the bulk of her career in private practice as a Christian counselor, retiring at the age of 79.

Joan was an accomplished baker. She was also a prolific reader of the Bible and other Christian books, who loved her daughter, grandchildren, friends, and animals. She was passionate about her faith and family. She was an active and dedicated member of the Stonebriar Community Church Women of the Word group and Marathon Sunday School class.

A reception and Celebration of Joan's Life will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, located at 7990 George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, Texas 75252.
