

Juanita Cannon passed from this life to the next on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at home. Born in Dallas on April 25th, 1918, she was truly 93 years young. She was preceded in death by her father Joe McGowan in 1953, her husband Ray D. Cannon in 1972, her mother Hazel W. McGowan in 1990 and her brother Joe McGowan Jr. in 2004. She is survived by her nephews Chris McGowan and his wife Mary, Monte McGowan and his wife Rosemary, her great-niece Shelby Clement and her husband Jeff, her great-nephew Cason McGowan and his fiancée Robyn Tullis, and her sister-in-law Jane Stubblefield McGowan. Juanita worked for Southwestern Bell for 52 years, one of the longest tenures known, and was Manager of Ad Valorem Tax in the legal department when she retired in 1988. Among her many interests were gardening and professional sports. Many thanks to all of her friends and neighbors who have helped her over the years and particular thanks to her caregiver Billie Baker for everything she has done for Juanita and our family over the past two decades. Services will be held at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home located at 8011 Frankford Road at 10AM this Saturday, July 2nd with interment at Grove Hill Cemetery following, the Reverend JoNell Lindh of Chapel Hill UMC officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Cataldi, Rick Cataldi, Jeff Clement, Cason McGowan, Monte McGowan, and Chris McGowan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your local ASCPA in remembrance of Juanita’s love of animals, particularly her beloved dachshund, Brandy.
