Katherine Miller Berend, age 62, passed away on July 21, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. She was born on September 1, 1958 in Fort Worth, Texas to Joy and Col. Robert Miller. Katherine was raised in Wichita Falls, Texas where she met her husband of 43 years, Jim Berend.
She attended St. Edwards University and then the University of Texas at Arlington where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She became a CPA and worked in public accounting before ‘retiring’ to be a full-time mother.
Together, Katherine and Jim had three children – Kirk, Kelly, and Will. In 2009, God called Katherine to care for an orphan from Russia, who along with her adopted family have become a special part of the Berend family. Katherine was a devout Catholic and served as a Hospital Eucharistic Minister for over 17 years.
She loved sewing and made countless quilts for loved ones and strangers alike. Katherine enjoyed the great outdoors and spending time with her family and friends at their ranch in Bozeman, Montana.
To know Katherine was not only to love her but to be unconditionally loved by her. She will always be remembered for her servant heart and unwavering faith. She was a caring wife, extraordinary mother, and loyal friend.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, her children, Kelly, Will, Kirk and his wife Kendel, and her granddaughter, Reese. She is proceeded by her father, Col. Bob Miller, mother, Joy Begley, and stepfather, Grant Begley.
A Rosary Service will be held on Wednesday, July 28th at 7:00 PM CST and a Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, July 29th at 11:00 AM CST. Both will be at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Plano, Texas located at 5100 W Plano Pkwy.
