Kathleen Marie Hall

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Kathy (Van Etten) Hall on August 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving children in the comfort of her home. Born on June 4, 1932, in Chicago, IL, Kathy's life was a testament to love, laughter, and the enduring strength of family.

Kathy was the beloved daughter of Bernard and Kathleen (McCarthy) Van Etten. She is predeceased by her parents and four of her five siblings, Marjorie (Marge), Bernard (Bro), Nancy, and Jack, as well as her devoted husband John (Jack) and son John Jr. Kathy's legacy lives on through her surviving sister Elaine (Emmet) Cassidy, her children, and their spouses and partners: Jill Hall, Kathleen (Charles) Johnson, Karen Hall (Faith), David (Jinx) Hall, Nancy (Thomas) Quinn, Thomas Hall, and Mark (Susan) Hall. Her family was her pride and joy, and her love extended to her 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, who will carry forward her memory and spirit.

Kathy attended Loyola University, and often joked that her major was in Pinochle, a testament to her sense of humor and love for fun. Her life took a thrilling turn when she married the love of her life, Jack, on November 28, 1953. Together, they embarked on an adventure to Germany, where Jack fulfilled his West Point obligation to the Army. Those four years were a cherished chapter in their lives, filled with travel, new experiences, and a baby girl - the first of eight children.

Back home in the US, Kathy dedicated herself to raising her children, creating a home filled with unconditional love, laughter, and the constant challenge of keeping up with a bustling household.

An avid tennis player, golfer, and lover of sports. Kathy's smile was ever-present on the court, though her competitive spirit was well-known to those who played alongside her.

Kathy's life was a melody of joy, as she possessed a beautiful singing voice sharing her talent in the Parish Choir. Kathy’s singing brought happiness to all who heard her voice.

Kathy and Jack were founding members of Prince of Peace. Kathy offered her talents in many ministries where her faith and commitment to community were deeply cherished.

Her days were brightened by the simple pleasures—a glass of wine shared with family, stories told over dinner, and the sound of laughter echoing through her home.

Kathy will be remembered as a beacon of love and joy, whose life was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her laughter, her voice, and her unwavering devotion to her family will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the hearts she touched.
